The RaceRace Trophies

Nearly 100 trophies and cups are awarded each year to competitors in the Round the Island Race, many of which have been in existence since the very early days of the race. The most famous is, of course, the Gold Roman Bowl, which has been awarded to the overall winner of the race (now the IRC division) since the very first race in 1931 - but there are many other wonderful trophies with fascinating histories that are given away each year to worthy winners in their respective classes. This year, eight lucky boats will also be awarded a prize of a Swiss made General Purpose Marathon Watch.

To celebrate this rich slice of sailing history, two keen and very dedicated members of the Island Sailing Club, Rod Nicholls and Cadet Member Reece Nicholls, have created a website documenting each trophy, together with every winner since 1931. The site also contains a wide selection pictures and information.
